HOW TO: BLUE SMOKEY EYE

Tips on getting the perfect smokey eye:

Hey my fellow readers,

I promised a blog post every week and here it is. This time I will be giving my tips on how to get the  perfect smokey eye us girls all chase after.

Today I have created a blue smokey eye that is just perfect for partying.

For this look I have used a bright blue eye shadow with silver sparkles and this went in the outer third of the eye. The second shade I used is a glittery white shadow and this was applied to the rest for the lid.

When working with glittery shadow its important to pat the eye shadow on the lid. The best way to do this is to use the best makeup tools you are born with.... your Fingers! This packs on the most product, making your look more intense, as well as reducing fall out.

The key to creating any smokey eye is to BLEND......... and then BLEND SOME MORE.

I know that blending out eye shadow is  tedious and requires a lot of patience but this step is important if you want to avoid looking like this ............

This look is not flattering on many people..  anyone.....
Another important tip for a perfect smokey eye is to invest in good blending brush. This will make your life a lot easier when doing this type of look because this brush will add the "smokey effect" to the smokey eye.

To Blend out eye shadow, place a clean or brush with very little eye shadow, on the socket of your eye. Move the brush back and forth along the socket until the desired affect is created. Imagine the motion of a car windscreen wiper while blending because that's the motion you want to follow.

Now that you have the blending technique down, you are about 90% of the way there. To make blending a lot easier make sure you only work with a small amount of eye shadow at a time. To intensify colors, just keep adding adding eye shadow and..... keep blending. I know its tempting to use a lot of eye shadow and try to blend everything out all at once to "save time" but trust me when I say that, this does the exact opposite. (I learned this the hard way).

The last step of doing a smokey eye to bring the shadow under the bottom lashes and (guess the word I am going to say here).......... yes BLEND. Apply mascara, eyeliner and false lashes as normal and you are done.

As you can see by now doing smokey eye is not for the fainthearted, but the most important thing is you give it ago. Like anything, makeup techniques take time. As with anything PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

Until next time, keep on blending

xoxo

HOW TO: Makeup for Hooded Eyes:

Hello my fellow readers,

I know it has been a while since I have last posted but in the year of 2014, one of my new years resolutions is to post on my blog more often. From now on I will be posting every Monday so look out for that :)

Today I have a tutorial on how to do makeup for hooded eyes. Growing up I could never find makeup techniques that worked for my eyes. I have now developed a few makeup techniques that are well suited for hooded eyes so I decided to share some tips with you guys. In saying that, this makeup look can still work for any other eye shape.

Step 1:

- Start out by applying an eye primer all over the eyes to stop your eye shadow from creasing.
- Next apply a creamy flesh toned eye shadow all over the lid.
- Then add a matte warm toned brown eye shadow/Bronzer to the crease. The trick with
hooded eyes is to apply this brown colour just slightly above your actual crease for the illusion of                 deeper eyes.

Step 2:

-Next add a darker matte brown to your actual crease and outer corner of the eyes. Matte shades in the  crease work best for hooded eyes as it doesn't extenuate hooded appearance.

Step 3:

-Add a shimmery shadow to the center of the eye. Here I have used a light pink shadow with green shimmer.  Highlighting the center of the lid using shimmer gives the eyes more depth.

Step 4:

- Apply gel or liquid liner. Here i have slightly winged out the end to give the eye more of a cat eye look. Try  to keep the eyeliner as thin as possible if you have hooded eyes.
- Next add a MATTE white shadow to the brow bone. It is essential that the brow bone color is matte if you   have hooded eyes.

Step 5 :

-Apply your favorite mascara. Here I have used Maybelline falsies mascara. I skipped false lashes since i feel like it give hooded eyes more of closed in appearance. If your real lashes are very short, apply natural looking false lashes to complete the look.

Feel free to leave comments and suggestions on what you guys want to see next.

Product Review: Revlon Photo ready Perfecting Primer

Hello my fellow readers,

I have purchased the Revlon Photo ready primer a while back and I have been using it regularly since I have got it so I am confident in what I am saying about this product.

Revlon Photo ready Perfecting Primer

directions: apply to clean skin. use alone or under makeup. 0.91 Fl.Oz/27 mL
so here is what the packaging looks like. Its quite a nice pump bottle which is good for easy application.

Here is the consistency of the primer. It is light purple in colour.
I just spread the product out here so everyone can see where i will be applying the product.

Here is what the product looks like blended in.

I am not going to muck around so here are the pros of the product:

- thick creamy consistency
- provides a smooth surface for makeup to go on
- really helps to minimize imperfections
- if you have oily skin this can be worn alone as an overall skin perfecter.
- helps to reduce the appearance of pores
- really helped the true colour of my makeup to show up
- there is a lot of product in the bottle

here are some of the cons

- kind of expensive ( well at least in New Zealand) i purchased it for $40.
- didn't really help my make up last any longer than usual
- not recommended for dry skin as this primer worm alone was a bit drying.
- not recommended as an eye primer as the consistency is too thick for the eyes (even though i used it on the eyes anyway)
- like most makeup this also contains Titanium dioxide so make sure you are not irritated to this

Overall this is a really good product. I especially recommend this if you have oily skin as you can use this product all over the face ( i have quite dry skin so i only use this product on my T zone where I can get a bit oily)

My rating : 4.0/5.0
